A look at what's to come

I've been obsessed of late with Borderlands 2. Kind of reminds me of the days I used to play World of Warcraft and the hours spent farming supplies and weapons.
So I've been thinking of making one of the guns, and one of my favs in the game is the Legendary SMG Maliwan Hellfire. As with all the guns in the game there are lots of variations with sights, grips, stocks etc. I've chosen to go with the most iconic, with the curved grip and solid stock.
I've found some a decent enough image on the net, and luckily have one in game now as well so I've been able to take my own screenshots.
So I've started making some blue prints using Inkscape to create the vectors. A preview's below, it's not finished yet though.

On a site note, I'm going to be getting a scroll saw for Xmas which will work a treat when it comes time to cut out the shape of this bad boy.

Stay tuned for progress

I'll be back soon

So I haven't really had the drive to work on either the Iron Man helmet or the shield lately. I suppose a lot of that is due to Borderlands 2 coming out and the legendary farming I've been doing. I've gotta make something from that game!
Any who, I've recently been on renovating my garage/shed. So it'll have a gym and small workshop. This means I'll once again be able to work indoors so I can continue to work over the winter rather than wait for warmer weather.
I'll post a picture of the mini workshop once it's finished.

First layer of bondo done

Today I got some time to sand the first layer of bondo on the helmet. It's looking pretty good, I haven't applied bondo all over just the main sections.

I also gave it a quick coat of some old spray paint to show some of the detail.

Smoothing edges

Today I spent some time using a rasp to remove some of the edges of the Pep. I found some of the card came away where I had tape on the inside, I'm not worried about this as the plastic has held fine everywhere else.
I've found some sections where it was warped, but I think I can sort these out using a heat gun.

Helmet enforcement done

Today I got the inside of the helmet re-enforced with polyurethane plastic. It's now rigid enough to sand the outside to make it smooth and begin applying car body filler.

Pep almost complete

I've been assembling the new Iron Man helmet over the past week, it's almost done. Just need to fill some of the gaps then I can re-enforce the inside.
The Pep is being sold by Fierfek on TheRPF, informations in the link below.
Fierfek's Premium Pepakura Files

The size is pretty close to my previous one, if not slightly bigger. But that's good because I'll have more space to work to install servos etc.

I'm on Facebook!

I've decided to link a Facebook page to my blog so it's easier for people to leave feedback.

I haven't worked on the Hylian shield in a while, but I'll get back to it at some point. I've started on working on a new Iron Man helmet from the third movie, released next year.
The new armor was shown at SD Comic-con so there's already a bunch of people starting to make replications. So here's a picture of what I'm aiming for.

Here's a little something different. It's a homemade Japanese Puzzle Box

Until the clocks for forward on the 25th March I don't have any daylight to work in when I get home. So work on the shield is restricted for the weekends if I can find the time.

But here's a little something you can easily make indoors. It's an 8 step Japanese Puzzle Box. I made this back in December 2011, it only takes a couple of hours to do. It's made from Basswood bought from my local Hobbycraft and superglue. I used a set of plans bought from Homemade Puzzles
This makes an ideal gift, and also a nice way to secure some personal possessions.

Let's continue

It's been a while since I've done any work on the Hylian Shield, but today I picked it up again. The edge is now nice and crisp, and I found my green masking tape had the exact width of the edge. This means I now have a nice line to sand up to.
I've begun building up the top side of the edging. It's going well and I'm hoping to get it done soon.

Curves

Got the crafting bug again so I've continued work on the shield.
Today I added filler to the edges and sanded them round. So it now looks like it's rounded instead of straight edged.
